“LIPOPROTEIN A COULD PREDICT ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROME BEFORE LDL CHOLESTEROL IN GENERAL POPULATION”

Fasano Renata Torino (Torino) – Ospedale Maria Vittoria

Background. Coronary artery disease is a global epidemic condition with high mortality. Beyond the well know low density cholesterol (LDL) the recent research is focused on Lipoprotein A [Lp(a)], as protein with key role in atherosclerotic process. Lp(a) is genetically determined and it should be measured once in a lifetime. Methods. In a single center study, we enroll patients with acute coronary syndrome who were hospitalized in cardiology division of Maria Vittoria Hospital (Torino) in six months, from May to December 2025, and evaluate complete lipid profile of all of them. Results. We find that pathological value of Lp(a), more than 50 mg/dL, is present in about 26% of our population and this cut-off is associated with younger age of patients and multivessel disease, mostly bivessel and trivessel. No differences were observed between different kind of acute coronary syndrome. Conclusion. The increase of Lp(a) should disclose coronary artery disease before LDL cholesterol.
